Artist Research - Fine Art

Arnulf Rainer




Austrian painter, printmaker and photographer. He is famous for his for his abstract informal art. Rainer did series of self-portraits, using photographs to print/paint over them. He would often make them black and white or with little colour.
He was close to the Vienna Actionism, featuring body art and painting under drug influence. He did a lot of work on Hiroshima, after the bombing.

Francis Bacon

An Irish-born British figurative painter known for his bold, graphic and emotionally raw imagery.
His painterly but abstracted figures typically appear isolated in glass or steel geometrical cages set against flat, nondescript backgrounds.
He would often paint self-portraits, as well as portraits of his friends, mainly George Dyer.
The materials he used were watercolour and oil paint.

Banksy
Banksy is a pseudonymous United Kingdom-based, graffiti artist, political activist, film director, and painter.
His satirical street art and subversive epigrams combine dark humour with graffiti executed in a distinctive stencilling technique. Such artistic works of political and social commentary have been featured on streets, walls, and bridges of cities throughout the world.

Jaime Reid

Jamie Reid is an English artist and anarchist.
His work, featuring letters cut from newspaper headlines in the style of a ransom note, came close to defining the image of punk rock, particularly in the UK. His best known works include the Sex Pistols album cover of Queen Elizabeth II.
Reid produced a series of screen prints in 1997

Tom Phillips is a Brittish painter, printmaker and collagist. His best known work is "A Humument: A Treated Victorian Novel".
